26 Vaccination Centres forced to shut in Mumbai after shortage of doses

As reported yesterday, Maharashtra is in serious jeopardy of running of out Covid-19 Vaccines. Around 26 vaccination centres in Mumbai had to close down as they ran out vaccines. According to Additional Municipal Commissioner Suresh Kakani around 20 centres are likely to dry up by Thursday and 25 centres as of Friday.

If more doses of vaccines are not supplied in time, then the vaccination process will be put on a hold in the country's Financial Captial.

Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope yesterday said that only 1.4 million doses are left which will last for only three days in Mumbai.

"Fourteen lakh doses are available with us now which would last three days. We need 40 lakh vaccine doses every week. We can then administer 6 lakh doses every day in a week. The doses we are getting is not enough" said Tope.

This situation comes at a compelling time when the city is reporting over 10,000 daily new cases of COVID-19. According to records revealed by BMC, the city reported 10,428 new cases and 23 deaths on Wednesday.
