Businessman from Ghaziabad arrested for Rs 101 Crore GST Fraud

On Friday, A Businessman from Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad was arrested for his connection in a GST (Goods and Service Tax) Fraud worth Rs 101 Crores.

In their probe, the officers of the CGST Commissionerate conducted searches at around 16 places in Ghaziabad, Gautam Buddh Nagar and Delhi.

Alok Jha, Commissioner of Central GST, Ghaziabad in a statement said "(The Searches) led to unearthing of GST fraud involving taxable value of Rs 101.33 crores and availment and utilization of Fake Input Tax Credit (ITC) of Rs 14.25 crores involving more than 44 firms."

Jha also added that the amount of fraud and number of firms involved is likely to go higher with further investigation.

The accused in this case Vishal Khandelwal was absent during the searches. He was then summoned by the officals. 

After appearing on Thursday (April 8) and recording his statement in which he confessed about GST liability, he was arrested on Friday under the CGST Act,2017 and produced before a court which ordered him judicial custody.
