In the midst of rising COVID-19 cases, the Uttar Pradesh Government have imposed a complete statewide lockdown on Sunday. The Government has also doubled the fine on not wearing masks to Rs 1,000 in an attempt to curb the widespread.
An official statement quoting Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath read "There will be a weekly closure in all rural and urban areas of the state on Sunday. Only sanitisation, sanitisation and emergency services will operate during this period. Necessary awareness works should also be done in this regard."
The CM himself tested positive for COVID-19 two days ago after an outbreak was reported in his officer. Along with him former UP CM Akhilesh Yadav also tested positive.
