FC Barcelona show why they are Kings of Copa Del Rey with 31st Cup Triumph

There are some players who are good. Then there are some great players. And there is Lionel Messi. Time and Time again, he continues to prove everyone why he is one of the greatest of all time. On Saturday, he led FC Barcelona to their 31st Copa Del Rey title as the Blaugrana thrashed Athletic Bilbao 4-0. This was Messi's 35th Trophy as a Barcelona player and the first as Barcelona Captain.

A sensational brace from him, saw Barcelona run rampant against "last year" runners up Athletic Bilbao. After a goalless first half, Barcelona finished off the game in a blistering 12 minute second half spell which saw them score 4 times.

The deadlock was broken in the 60th minute by Antoine Griezmann after he popped the ball into the back of the net through a pass from Frenkie De Jong. De Jong then scored himself, three minutes later who headed in from close range to make it 2-0.

And then Lionel Messi got involved. The Argentinian played out to one-two and due to the angle being too tight, cutted back inside his left foot and fired it the bottom left hand corner to make it 3-0 inside 68 minutes.

He added his side's fourth goal in the 72th minute after he slammed in the ball into the bottom left hand corner from the edge of the box. Athletic's keeper Simon got a hand to it but was unable to keep it out.

Barcelona had a goal ruled out in the 86th minute by the VAR for offside but who cares when you are 4-0 up?
