On Thursday the Maharashtra Police have registered an FIR against former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh, DCP Parag Manere and 31 other police personnel based on the complaint filed by inspector Bhimrao Ghadge.
According to reports, a total of 27 sections have been applied against the accused persons. No arrests have been reported as of yet.
In his complaint addressed to Maharashtra Government and the DGP, Ghadge has made a series of allegations against Singh and other officers in relation with corruption. After the inquiry, the DGP asked the Anti Corruption Bureau to investigate the allegations.
Ghadge alleged that during his tenure at the Thane Commissionerate between 2015 and 2018, Param Bir Singh was involved in various acts of corruption. He also alleged that Singh had asked him to not charge-sheet certain individuals against whom FIRs had been registered.
He further alleged that since he refused to follow his instructions, 5 separate FIRs were registered against him which saw him getting suspended. At the moment, Ghadge is posted in the control room at Akola where the FIR has been registered.
Singh has been in the spotlight recently, following his sacking as Mumbai Police Commissioner. He would later drop a "letter bomb" where he levelled charges of extortion against Former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh. Singh had alleged that Deshmukh had asked officer Sachin Waze to collect a sum of Rs 100 Crore for him from bars and restaurants.
