Manchester City reach UCL Semis at the fifth time of asking under Pep Guardiola

On Wednesday Night, the UCL Quarter Final came to a close as Real Madrid and Manchester City booked their place along with Paris Saint Germain and Chelsea in the Semi Finals of this year's competition.

Having won the first leg 3-1, Real Madrid travelled to Anfield to face Liverpool. Knowing Liverpool's heroic comebacks in previous years, Real knew the tie was not over yet.

Liverpool had plenty of chances in the first half to score with Mohammed Salah and Georginio Wijnaldum both failing to keep their short on target from inside the box. In the end the game finished goalless as Liverpool went crashing out of the cup as Real Madrid prepare to face Chelsea.

The second tie of the night saw Manchester City come from behind and beat Borussia Dortmund to reach their second ever Semi final, their first undee Pep Guardiola in 5 years.

Leading 2-1 on the aggregate at the start of the night, City still had a lot to do. A 15th minute wonderstrike from Jude Bellingham made it 1-0 to Dortmund and 2-2 on aggregate with them now leading on away goals. It was moment to savour for the 17 year old after being harshly disallowed in the first leg.

At halftime, it looked like City's Quarter Final Curse will strike up once again. However they got themselves back into the game from a 55th minute Riyad Mahrez penalty after Emre Can was judged to have handled the ball in the box.

The game was then sealed in the 75th minute, through a wonderstrike of his own from Phil Foden. He began just the second player under 21 years old to score in both home and away legs of a UCL knockout tie after Kylian Mbappe did it for AS Monaco ironically against Dortmund in 2017.

The win means City will now face Paris Saint Germain. The duo last met in the 2015-16 Quarter Final which saw City draw the first leg 2-2 and win the home leg 1-0 to reach their first ever Semi Final.
