For the second time in this year, United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson had to cancel his scheduled trip to India. This comes in the view of rising number COVID-19 cases in India. The country reported around 2,73,810 new cases, another single day record spike.
This was confirmed in a Joint Statement released by the External Affairs and the British Government.
"In the light of the current Coronavirus situation, Prime Minister Boris Johnson will not be able to travel to India next week. Instead Prime Ministers Modi and Johnson will speak later this month to agree and launch their ambitious plans for the future parternship between the UK and India" read the statement.
In January, Boris Johnson was scheduled to attend the Republic Day Parade as a Chief Guest in India. However he had to cancel that trip due to a sudden surge at that time in UK.
