On Wednesday night, Fugitive Diamond Dealer Mehul Choksi' adventurous escape came to an end as he was captured in Dominica. The Antigua Observer reported that Choksi is being held in the custody of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Dominica.
Choksi (63) is involved in the Rs 14,000 Crore Punjab National Bank (PNB) Scam along with his nephew Nirav Modi (who is locked up in London prison) and is wanted in India under charges of fraud.
The 63 year old went missing from the Caribbean Island nation of Antigua and Barbuda where he had fled in 2018. After his sudden disappearance, search operation was underway with an Interpol Yellow Notice.
The Antigua and Barbuda Prime Minister Gaston Browne has asked the Dominica Authorities to hand him over directly to India.
- "Dominica has agreed to hand Mehul Choksi over to India. We will not accept him back. He made a monumental error by skipping the island. Dominican government and law enforcement are cooperating with us and we have informed the Indian Government to have him repatriated to India" said Gaston Browne.
