IMA demands action against Baba Ramdev over remarks of allopathy; Patanjali clarifies

On Saturday the Indian Medical Association (IMA) lashed at Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev over his remarks on allopathy and demanded that Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan order his prosecution under the Epidemic Diseases Act 1897 or accept his accusations and dissolve the modern medical facility.

  • In their letter to the Health Minister,IMA wrote "When such idolised personal are making vitrolic comments, questioning the authority and integrity of the whole architecture of the health ministry, the health minister, who himself is a practicing modern medicine allopathy postgraduate and the head of this ministry, should either accept the challenge and accusation of this gentleman and dissolve the modern medicine facility or boldy face and prosecute the person for his words of arson on the sovereignty of the country and book him under the Epidemic Diseases Act to save millions of people from such unscientific utterances."

This reaction from IMA comes after a video of Baba Ramdev surfaced on the internet in which he said "Modern allopathy ek aise stupid aur diwaliya science ha"(Modern allopathy is a stupid and failed science).

However Patanjali soon rushed into his defence and claimed that the statement being attributed to him by the IMA is false and he has his "utmost regards" for Doctors and other support stuff who are working hard during the Pandemic.

  • "He was reading out a forwarded WhatsApp message recieved by him and various other members who were participating in the event. Swami jee has no ill-will against the modern science and good practitioners of modern medicine. What is being attributed against him is false and nugatory" said the Patanjali Yogpeet Trust in a statement signed by General Secretary Acharya Balakrishna.
