Yesterday, Leicester City became the 44th different name on the FA Cup roll of honour when they defeated Chelsea 1-0 in the final (with a little help from VAR) to lift the famous cup in their fifth time of asking.

This was the 140th FA Cup Final, with Chelsea and Leicester becoming the 117th different pairing in the competition's showpiece event.

Chelsea's last FA Cup success came in 2018 when they defeated Manchester United 1-0. They ended as Runners Up last year as Arsenal came from behind to win 2-1. Whereas for Leicester, this was their fifth FA Cup final, their first since 1968-69 when they lost 1-0 to Manchester City.

After an evenly contested first half, the breakthrough moment came in 63rd minute, when Youri Tielemans smashed a rocket of a shot from 25 yards out, to take the Leicester fans behind the goal into Dreamland.

Chelsea then kept on pushing for an equalizer but were denied twice by some heroic keeping from Leicester City Captain, Kasper Schmeichel in the 79th and 87th minute respectively.

Then came the VAR Drama. A long ball from Thiago Silva, found Ben Chillwell. The former Leicester City man then darted into the box and his shot pinballed around the penalty area, before finding its way in through Leicester City defender Wes Morgan.

Chelsea players and fans started to celebrate their equalizer. However checks from VAR showed that Chillwell had made his run a fraction earlier and his shoulder was very closely but correctly in an offside position and the goal was chalked off as huge roar from supporters of Leicester went up as if they just scored again.

Leicester then hanged on and won the match wrote another famous chapter in their history books, following their shocking 5000/1 odds Premier League triumph in 2015/16.

For Chelsea, it was another FA Cup final Defeat. They have now become the first team since Newcastle United in 1998 and 1999, to lose two consecutive FA Cup final. They have one last chance of salvation in two weeks time when they will play the newly crowned Champions of England, Manchester City in the UCL Final on 29th May.
