On Sunday, LOSC Lille defeated Angers 2-1 to confirm the top spot and become Champions of France for the fourth time in their history and for the first time since 2010-11. They overcame the heavy favourites in the form of Paris Saint Germain who finished second, one point behind them.
Going into the final weekend, they knew a victory would gurantee them as Champions. They took the lead in the 10th minute through Jonathan David. Their fans were sent into delight when the news of Neymar missing a penalty in the 19th minute against Brest showed up. However that joy lasted for few minutes as PSG soon took the lead through an own goal in the 37th minute.
Lille then doubled the lead just before half time through a Burak Yilmaz penalty in first half injury time which helped them settle their nerves. The 35 year old Turk, is one of the main reason for Lille's success as he netted 16 goals and registered 5 assists in 28 league games this season.
This marks only the second time in the past nine years that PSG have not been crowned champions, with the young and aspiring AS Monaco lifting the title in 2016-17.
