Belgium and Netherlands qualify for knockout stages following impressive wins

On Thursday Belgium and Netherlands ensured their progression from the group stages after winning their games against Denmark 2-1 and Austria 2-0 respectively. These two sides along with Italy have a perfect record as of yet and will take part in the latter stages.

Following the unfortunate incident regarding Christian Eriksen's sudden collapse, Denmark returned to Copenhagen to take on Belgium in an attempt to get a positive result in tribute for their No.10 .

The game sparked to life inside two minutes as the host took the lead following an error from Belgium's Jason Denayer. His error was pounced on by Højbjerg who nearly threaded it to Youssef Poulsen who took a touch before drilling his effort beyond Courtois.

The game was then briefly abrupted at the 10th minute as a huge round of applause echoed the stadium in tribute to Eriksen.

At the stand of second half, Belgium manager Roberto Martinez introduced Kevin De Bruyne instead of Dries Mertens. This was the midfielder's first appearance since the Champions League Final against Chelsea where he left off injured.

The PFA Player of the Year then showed the attacking sense the visitors were missing. He first setted up Thorgan Hazard after clamly stepping away from few challenges before finishing off a brillant team move setted up by another substitute Eden Hazard to turn the game around.

As for Netherlands, they had a much comfortable evening as compared to Belgium. A first half penalty from Memphis Depay had given them a great cushion. The Dutch were somehow unable to add a second goal much earlier.

They eventually got the second goal in the form of Denzel Dumfries. The striker was set up fellow attacker Donyell Malen who unselfishly opted to pick out Dumfries instead of going for glory himself.

Austria's one real chance came late on as substitute Karim Onisiwo headed the ball straight into the hands of the Dutch keeper.

They other game of the day saw Ukraine beat North Macedonia 2-1. Goals from Andriy Yarmolenko and Roman Yaremchuk saw them race to a 2-0 lead. Ezgjan Alioski missed his penalty but followed up his miss to rebound the effort into the back of the net to pull one back for North Macedonia.
