New set of Covid-19 guidelines issued for Mumbai; some relaxations provided

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued new set of guidelines for the city of Mumbai. With the dip in COVID-19 cases in the city some relaxations have been given by the government.

These Guidelines comes a day after Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray announced the extension of the lockdown-like restrictions till June 15th.

The New Guidelines are-

  • Shops which are related to essential supplies will be now operate from 7 am to 2 pm. Earlier the timing was 6 am to 10 pm.
  • The government has decided to use the odd-even formula for the opening of other shops.
  • In the first week of unlocking, Shops on the right side of roads will be allowed to operate on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The remaining shops i.e on the left side, will be allowed to operate on Tuesday and Thursday.
  • In the second week of unlocking this arrangement will be reversed. The shops located on the left will be allowed to remain open on Monday, Wednesday and Friday whereas the right side ones on Tuesday and Thursday.
  • However shops will remain close on Saturday and Sunday depending on the necessity.
  • Essential goods can be delivered by e-commerce.

According to data provided by health ministry, Mumbai continued to a show a dip as it recorded 676 new cases and 29 deaths. As many as 5,570 patients recovered in a single day as the active cases fell down to 22,390.

Meanwhile the state of Maharashtra reported 15,077 and 184 deaths, showing some improvement in daily cases. In the meantime the state also reported around 33,000 recoveries.
