On Sunday, the Tamil Nadu Government announced the extension of the ongoing COVID-19 lockdown in the state. The lockdown has now been extended by another week i.e till June 28. However like other state, the government have eased some restrictions as well.
The government of Tamil Nadu has divided the state into three tiers. Tier 1 which comprises of 11 districts have not been offered any new relaxations due to the high active case count. These districts are Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Thiruppur, Erode, Salem, Karur, Namakkal, Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Nagapattinam and Mayiladuthurai.
In Tier 2 additional restrictions have been given. There are around 23 districts in Tier 2. Whereas Tier 3 gets more relaxations than Tier 2. As of now only Chennai, Thiruvallur, Kancheepuram and Chengalpet are in Tier 3.
According to the new guidelines:
- Chennai Metro Rail will be permitted to function from Monday with 50 percent occupancy.
- E-Registration will no longer be required to travel in Auto and Taxis.
- Standalone grocery and vegetables shops can be opened from 6 am to 7 pm.
- Takeaways at Restaurant and other small establishments allowed from 6 am to 9 pm.
- Non essential shops will be allowed to operate from 9 am to 5 pm. E-commerce will also be allowed from 6 am to 9 pm.
- All government facilities will operate with 100 per cent occupancy while private firms will operate with 50 per cent occupancy in Tier 3.
- Marriages and other related ceremonies will be allowed in Tier 1 and Tier 2 with maximum of 50 people with E-Registration.
