COVID Update: Two Cases of new "Kappa" Variant found in Uttar Pradesh

 

After two cases of Delta Plus Variant were detected earlier this week in Uttar Pradesh, a new Variant named Kappa has now been in detected in atleast two patients. One patient aged 66 passed away due to this new highly transmissible COVID-19 Variant.

The sample of the patient who died was collected on June 13 as a routine and was sent to the CSIR's institute of Genomics and Intergrative Biology, New Delhi were the test confirmed the emergence of this new variant.

Like Delta Plus, Kappa has also been declared as a variant of concern.

BRD Medical College Microbiology HOD, Amresh Singh, said that the patient had been tested positive for COVID-19 on May 27 and was brought to the medical college on June 12. His sample was taken on June 13 but unfortunately passed away on June 14.

"The patient died in the course of treatment on June 14. He had no travel issue" said Singh. According to health officials, more than 2000 samples have now been sent from the state for testing.
