On Tuesday, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said that the Centre is likely to start the COVID-19 Vaccination of children in August. The health minister reported this during the Parliamentary party meeting of BJP which was also attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
- "We would likely begin vaccinating children from next month" said Mandaviya.
This statement comes at a time when experts have predicted a likely third wave of COVID-19 will infect children more than adults as compared to the first and second wave.
Trials of Bharat Biotech's COVID-19 vaccine, Covaxin on children are underway and results are expected to be released by September.
"In the coming weeks or by September, vaccines should be available for children. We should then start schools in a graded manner as we have been doing for 18-45 years and that will also give more protection to kids and more confidence to the public that children are safe" said AIIMS Chief Dr Randeep Guleria last week to ANI.
