In a shocking act in Mumbai, a manager of an ICICI Bank in Virar (East) was killed while a cashier was left severely wounded after two robbers tried to escape with cash and gold on Thursday evening. One of the robbers was nabbed while trying to escape.
According to Police Reports, the robbers struck the bank, located close to Virar Railway Station around 8 pm. The manager, Yogita Vartak, and cashier, Shraddha Devrukh were the only ones inside the bank with shutters half down as they were winding up their work.
The two men, including the arrested accused, Anil Dubey headed straight to the locker and threatened them to open the locker. As the robbers filled the bag with cash and gold and were about to flee, Vartak raised an alarm. One of the accused then pulled out a razor and slashed her neck.
Devrukh was assualted too by the razor. Her screams alerted the nearby people on the busy road who were able to nab Dubey and hand him over to the police. However, his unidentified partner was able to run away.
The Police have been able to recover the cash and gold from Dubey. Vartak was rushed to the hospital where she was declared dead on arrival, while Devrukh is being treated at a primary care centre and her condition is said to serious.
During Investigation, the police found out that Dubey was an ex-manager of the same branch and knew all about the functioning of the bank. Both women were the residents of nearby area, Vasai.
An FIR has been registered and further investigation is underway.
