Manipur announces 10-day Complete Lockdown starting from July 18

 

Due to a continuous surge of Delta Variant cases in the state, the Manipur Government has announced a 10-day strict lockdown in the region starting from July 18.

"With the wide prevalence of Delta Variant of COVID-19 in Manipur, there is a need to take stringent measures to break the chain of transmission. Therefore, the state government has decided to declare a total curfew from July 18,2021, for ten days" said the health department.

Chief Minister N Biren Singh on his Twitter handle announced that all institution expect emergency services will remain shut during this period.

  • "Only the people coming out for vaccination and testing will be permitted to venture out" said Singh.

On Thursday, Manipur recorded its highest single day spike with 1,104 new COVID-19 cases which took the tally to 81,560. With 17 deaths, the death toll increased up to 1,340. There are 8,558 active cases in the state out of which 3,436 are in home isolation.
