Buildings with 5 or more COVID-19 cases to be sealed in Mumbai: Police to be deployed to enforce restriction

With a sharp rise in COVID-19 cases in Mumbai, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) have released a new set of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). As per the new SOPs, buildings with 5 or more active COVID-19 cases will be sealed with all movements of residents being restricted.

"Any housing society having five or more than five active COVID-19 cases will be sealed" said the civic body.

BMC Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal on Monday also directed officials to deploy police at the entrance of buildings sealed in order to stop people from entering them.

As of Monday, 27 buildings have been sealed in Mumbai. The city recorded 334 new cases and 2 deaths on Monday. With 310 recoveries, the active caseload of the city is at 3,056.
