According to reports, Mumbai recorded it's first fatality due to Delta Plus Variant, as a 63-year-old patient who was fully inoculated with both doses of COVID-19 vaccine, succumbed to the infection. The woman passed away on July 27th.
As per health officials in Mumbai, the women was a resident of the Eastern suburbs and had several comorbidities including diabetes. She was among the first seven patients in the city whose reports had returned positive for this new strain.
- "People should not panic but continue to wear masks and maintain physical distancing. The patient had lot of comorbidities and an underlying lung condition" said Dr Mangale Gomare, BMC's executive health officer.
This is the second death to be reported in Maharashtra due to Delta Plus Variant after an 80-year-old woman from Ratnagiri succumbed on June 13th. The state has 65 cases of this variant including 11 in Mumbai.
