COVID Update: Maharashtra Government relaxes more curbs; Has second thought of reopening schools

A few days after relaxing curbs on travelling through local trains in Mumbai for fully vaccinated citizens, the Maharashtra Government on Wednesday released out the second round of unlocking and eased more curbs related to hospitality and shopping.

From 15th August, Shopping Malls will be allowed to operate till 10 pm on all days of the week. However entry will be provided to only those who have been fully inoculated (14 Days after the second dose). Mall staff will need to be vaccinated.

As for Restaurants and Bars, Dine-in will be allowed till 10 pm throughout the weekend. The seating capacity of restaurants and bars will be at 50 per cent. Their staff will also need to be vaccinated and must wear face masks.

Cinemas, Multiplexes, Theaters, Auditoriums and places of worship will remain close.

Speaking of Reopening of Schools in the state, the Maharashtra Government are now having second thoughts. The state task force are against the reopening of schools.

A day ago, the Government had released a circular which container various Standard Operation Procedures (SOP) for reopening of Schools from August 17.

  • "The task force members have expressed opposition to reopening schools. The task force has expressed fears that students below the age of 18 have not been vaccinated... they feel that risk should not be taken" said Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope and added that a decision regarding this will be taken by CM Uddhav Thackeray after a meeting with task force and school education members.
