The Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) have given their nod and approved to conduct a study on mixing of Covishield and Covaxin vaccines. Both of these vaccines have been developed in India for the fight against COVID-19.
Earlier, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) in their study had revealed that the combination of Covishield and Covaxin vaccines had produced better results than taking two doses of the same vaccine.
This study was conducted on 18 people and their safety and immunogenicity results compared to those who had taken both doses was better.
- "Permission has been granted for a research study by CMC Vellore on mixing of vaccine doses" said Dr VK Paul, Niti Aayog member in a brief press conference.
This announcement has raised considerable anxiety among people. According to health data, around 53.24 Crore vaccine doses have been registered in India as of August 11.
