Following his remarks about 'slapping' Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, BJP leader and Union Minister Narayan Rane was arrested on Tuesday. He was taken to the Sangameshwar Police Station.
Rane had made this statement for what he claimed as Thackeray's ignorance of the year of India's Independence.
"It is shameful that the Chief Minister does not know the year of Independence. He learnt back to enquire about the count of years of Independence during his speech. Had I been there, I would have given (him) a tight slap" said Rane during his Jan Ashirwad Yatra in Raigad on Monday.
The Former Shiv Sena CM claimed that Thackeray forgot the year of Independence during his August 15 address to the state. Thackeray had to check the year of Independence with his workers in the middle of the speech said Rane.
A huge wave of reactions from the Shiv Sena workers followed. Several posters of Rane were put up in Mumbai and other places. Workers of both parties also clashed outside his residence in Mumbai which led to sloganeering, stone pelting and eventually police lathi charge.
Several Sena workers also staged a protest at Mumbai's Lalbaug area in which they showed black flags. Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar was also present at the spot.
"We are demonstrating against the Union Minister who earlier held the post of Maharashtra CM & has now disrespected the current CM and his position" said Pednekar.
Shiv Sena MP Vinayak Raut claimed that Rane has lost his mental balance.
"To impress BJP leadership, Rane has been attacking Shiv Sena and it's leaders. He lost his mental balance after his induction into the Modi-led ministry. Modi should show him the door" said Raut.

Meanwhile, BJP President JP Nadda condemned Rane's arrest as an violation of constitutional values.
"The arrest of Union Minister Narayan Rane by the Maharashtra Government is a violation of constitutional values. We will neither be scared nor suppressed by such action" tweeted JP Nadda in Hindi.
