  • Patel is an MLA from Ghatlodiya assembly constituency in Gujarat and had won by a margin of 1,17,000 votes against Shashikant Patel from the Congress. He also chaired the standing committee of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation.

"Bhupendra Patel elected as the new leader of BJP Legislative Party" said Union Minister and Gujarat-in-charge Nitin Tomar.

"Bhupendra Patel will be sworn-in as Gujarat CM soon" added Tomar.

"Bhupendra Patel is capable. We believe BJP will win the upcoming elections in the state under his leadership" ANI quoted former CM Vijay Rupani.

In the 2017 state election, BJP had won 99 out of the state's 182 Assembly Seats. Rupani who took charge of the state in 2016, became the fourth CM in BJP ruling states to resign this year, after BS Yediyurappa in Karnataka and Tirath Singh Rawat in Uttarakhand who lasted 4 months after the replacing Trivendra Rawat.
