In view of the consistent increase in crime against women, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Monday chaired a meeting with chiefs of all police forces, Government Railway Police (GRP) commissioner and senior officials of State Home Department regarding women safety issues.
In a recent case, a 30-year-old woman succumbed to her injuries after being brutally raped in Mumbai's Sakinaka area. A rod was put in her private parts and was undergoing treatment in Rajawadi Hospital in Mumbai.
On the intervening night of Thursday and Friday at 3:30 am, the woman was lying unconscious and covered in blood on Khairani Road in Sakinaka.
The police arrested the rapist man and he was booked under Sections 307, 376, 323 and 504 of the Indian Penal Code.
