With a sudden increase in COVID-19 cases and the threat of a third wave looming over, the Maharashtra Government have placed a banned on the visit of devotees to Ganesh Pandals during the festival of Ganesh Chaturthi.
Previously, the Maharashtra Government had said that the devotees will be allowed to visit pandals while following Social Distancing norms.
As of now, the government has asked the Pandal organisers to provide the facility of online darshan or live telecast of the pandals.
"We can celebrate festivals later. Let us prioritise the lives and health of our citizens. The situation can go out of hand in view of the spike in daily cases" Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray was quoted by PTI.
- On Wednesday, Maharashtra reported 4,174 cases. Meanwhile Mumbai, recorded more than 500 cases for the first time in 54 days as 532 cases were recorded in the financial captial. On August 17, the city had recorded the year's lowest tally of 196 cases.
This year, the 11-day Ganesh Chaturthi festival will start on September 10.
