On Monday, Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP and West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee's nephew, Abhishek Banerjee appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for questioning in the money laundering case linked to an alleged coal pilferage scam in the state.
"I was called on September 6 by the ED for investigation and I have already told earlier, that i am ready for any investigation. The officials are investigating and from day one I have informed that the officials should investigate on allegations, the agencies are working and as the citizen of this country we should cooperate and let them work" Banerjee told ANI.
The 33-year-old arrived at the office of ED at Jam Nagar House in Central Delhi just before 11 am.
He represents the Diamond Harbour Seat in Lok Sabha and is the national general secretary of the Trinamool Congress (TMC).
The ED had filed a criminal case under the PMLA after studying aNovember 2020 FIR by CBI that alleged a multi-crore coal pilferage scam.
While speaking to the mediapersons at the Kolkata Airport on Sunday, Banerjee said that he would get himself hanged if any central agency can prove his involvement in any illegal transactions.
- "If anybody can prove that I have accepted even ten paisa from anyone, I will voluntarily walk to the gallows and hang myself" said Banerjee.
His wife Rujira Banerjee meanwhile skipped the summon on September 1, citing the risk of travelling during the pandemic with two infants and wrote a letter to the agency to get the questioning done in Kolkata itself.
