After a successful Olympics for India which saw India win 7 medals (1 Gold, 2 Silver and 4 Bronze), the Tokyo Paralympics proved to be even more successful as India finished 24th on Standings with 19 Medals to their name (5 Gold, 8 Silver and 6 Bronze).
On the last day of the competition, India bagged their fifth gold medal as Krishna Nagar won a gold while Noida's District Magistrate Suhas Yathiraj won silver in badminton.
In all, 54 atheletes came to Tokyo and 17 left with medals around their neck. Shooter Avani Lekhara and Singhraj Adana finished on the podium twice.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to his Twitter account and congratulated the atheletes and labelled them as "Champions and Source of Inspiration."
The historic number of medals India won has filled our hearts with joy. I would like to appreciate the coaches, support staff and families of our athletes for their constant support to the players. We hope to build on our successes to ensure greater participation in sports.
