UK finally recognizes Covishield vaccine after protests from India

A day after India warned of "reciprocal action" for the "discrimination" by the United Kingdom (UK) for putting people vaccinated with Covishield in the category of "unvaccinated", the vaccine has got approved in the updated UK Travel Advisory.

On Tuesday, Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla had called the UK government's decision discriminatory.

"The non-recognition of Covishield is a discriminating policy and impacts our citizens travelling to the UK" said Harsh Vardhan Shringla

  • UK had earlier said that people from India flying to UK, even if fully vaccinated would have to undergo a 10-Day Quarantine during which they will have to get tested for COVID-19.

However there is no clarity yet on whether people fully vaccinated with Covishield will be exempt from the mandatory quarantine.
