COVID Update: Mumbai records zero COVID-19 deaths for the first time since the pandemic began

 

After a long gruesome battle with COVID-19, Mumbai on Sunday (17th October) reported zero COVID-19 related deaths for the first time since March last year.

According to reports from BMC, the city registered a total of 367 new cases which took the total tally to 7,50,808 cases. The astonishing stat was the number of deaths in a single day (0). The last time the city reported zero deaths was on March 26, 2020.

BMC Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal has stated that atleast 97 per cent of Mumbai's population have been jabbed with the first dose while 55 per cent are fully vaccinated.

Mumbai had reported it's first COVID-19 case on March 11, 2020 and it's first death six days later on March 17, 2020.

During the second wave of COVID-19, Mumbai reported it's highest single day tally on April 4, 2021 when 11,163 cases. On May 1, the city reported it's highest single day death toll with 90 deaths.
