India criticises China's Land Boundary Law; Calls it an "unilateral move"

On Wednesday, India expressed their concern over China's new Land Boundary Law that Beijing adopted on Saturday for the protection and exploitation of the country's land border areas.

Official spokesperson of Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Arindam Bagchi said "China's unilateral decision to bring about legislation which can have an implication on our existing bilateral arrangements on border management as well as on boundary question is of concern for us."

"The passage of this new law (Land Boundary Law) does not in our view confer any legitimacy to the so called China-Pakistan 'Boundary Agreement' of 1963 which the government of India has consistently maintained is illegal and invalid agreement" added Bagchi.

This new law will come into effect from January 1, 2022. Bagchi also said that India expects that China will avoid any such action under the pretext of the law which would damage and alter the situation in the Indo-China border areas.

Both countries have been on a Standoff at the Line of Actual Control (LAC) after armies of both nation clashed with each other in June 2020 at the Galwan Valley.
