Priyanka Gandhi arrested; Sidhu warns saying, release Gandhi or we'll march towards Lakhimpur Kheri

On Tuesday evening Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu issued a warning against the Uttar Pradesh government that the Punjab Congress will march towards Lakhimpur Kheri if the accused is not arrested and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is not released from police custody by tomorrow.

"If, by tomorrow, the Union Minister's son behind the brutal murder of Farmers is not arrested, and our leader @PriyankaGandhi being unlawfully arrested, fighting for farmers is not released, the Punjab Congress will march towards Lakhimpur Kheri!" tweeted Sidhu.

  • After being kept in detention for more than 24 hours, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was arrested on Tuesday along with 10 others under Section 151 (arrest to prevent the commission of cognizable offences) of CrPC.

Vadra was stopped on her way to Lakhimpur Kheri on Monday morning, where eight people including 4 farmers were killed when a convoy of three SUVs hitted them. One of the SUVs belonged to Union MoS Ajay Mishra. It had been alleged that Mishra's son was driving the car.

Earlier today, she tweeted a viral video of an SUV running over farmers at a site of protest in Lakhimpur Kheri and took dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

"Have you seen this video? [She held a mobile phone showing a Jeep running over a group of farmers, which she claimed is from Lakhimpur Kheri] Why hasn't been this man been arrested? Leaders like us who want to visit Lakhimpur Kheri have been put under custody without any FIR, I want to know why this man is free?" Vadra questioned Modi.
