Spain 1-2 France: Controversial Mbappe goal clinches Nations League trophy

A controversial and debatable late goal from Kylian Mbappe on Sunday turned out be the winner as the World Champions, France came back from 1-0 down to win the UEFA Nations League Final 2-1 against Spain.

Spain dominated the first half with more than 64 per cent possession but were unable to create a handful of chances.

The game came to life in the 64th minute as Mikel Oyarzabal as his low shot across goal found the far side of the net.

The lead for Spain lasted justed two minutes as Karim Benzema equalized in the 66th minute with a stunning curling effort from the edge of the box to make it 1-1.

Drama unfolded in the 80th minute as Kylian Mbappe was sent through on goal by a through pass from Theo Hernandez. The 22-year-old striker slotted the ball under the keeper who had rushed off this line to close down the angle.

Replays showed Mbappe to be slightly offside but the goal stood, much to the dismay of Spanish faithful.

For Kylian Mbappe though, the goal has surely redeemed his crucial penalty miss against Switzerland in the Round of 16.
