In a tragic incident on Saturday, at least 11 COVID-19 patients were killed and several others were left injured in a major fire breakout at one hospital in Maharashtra's Ahmednagar.
The fire is said to have broke out in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital were patients admitted. The cause of the fire is yet to be known however preliminary information suggest that the fire broke out due to a short circuit.
The fire erupted at around 11 am.
"Anguished by the loss of lives due to a fire in a hospital in Ahmednagar, Maharashtra. Condolences to the bereaved families. May the injured recover at the earliest" wrote PM Modi while expressing his grief.
Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray also condoled the deaths and assured of a stern action against those responsible for the negligence.
"Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has expressed his condolences over the fire that broke out in the ICU ward of Ahmednagar district hospital today and directed to conduct a thorough inquiry into the matter and take stern action against those responsible for the negligence" Chief Minister' Office tweeted.
