For the 5th year running, Indore of Madhya Pradesh, was ranked India's cleanest city under the Centre's annual cleanliness survey.
- In the results of Swach Survekshan 2021 announced by the government on Saturday morning, Indore secured the top spot by scoring a maximum of 5,618.14 marks out of 6,000.
Surat in Gujarat was ranked second with a score of 5,559.21 marks. Every year, cities and towns across India are awarded the title of "Swachh Cities" on the basis of their cleanliness and sanitation drive as a part of the Swach Bharat Abhiyan (Clean India Mission) launched in 2014.
Whereas Varanasi was ranked the cleanest under the "Ganga Town category". Among smaller cities with population between 1-10 lakh, New Delhi ranked first.
Around 4,320 cities and towns were covered in this year's Swach Survekshan. President Ram Nath Kovind conferred honour to the cities on Saturday in Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi.
