PM Narendra Modi announces repeal of three farm laws; Rakesh Tikait informs agitation to continue

In a major move on Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the repealing of the three farm laws.

  • In an address to the nation, PM Modi apologized to the countrymen and informed that the process of  repealing of the three farm laws will take place in the upcoming Winter session of Parliament.

"Today, I have come to tell you, the whole country, that we have decided to repeal all three farm laws. In the ensuing Parliament session that begins later this month, we will remove the constitutional process to repeal these three farm laws" said PM Modi.

He also urged farmers (those protesting) to return to their home to their families and start afresh.

The move which comes on the auspicious occasion of Shri Guru Nanak Jayanti send shockwave throughout the country with many political leaders and celebrities accepting the decision with some criticism.

Also a jibe by the opposition says that Prime Minister Modi played safe by repealing the laws before the upcoming elections.

However Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Rakesh Tikait informed that the agitation will continue. Farmers in the country have been on agitation for over a year, protesting against the centre to remove these three farms laws.

"Agitation isn't ending. Who told you that the agitation is ending? It'll will continue. They have just taken laws back, they should go to the Parliament and make this legal. We have Samyukta Morcha 9-member committee meeting today. Everything will be decided there. If the government wants to put forth their side, they should do it there" said Tikait.
