Ex UP Waqf Board Chairperson Wasim Rizvi converts to Hinduism, renamed as Jitendra Narayan Singh Tyagi

On Monday, Wasim Rizvi – former Uttar Pradesh Shia Waqf Board Chairperson, converted to Hinduism (Sanatan Dharma)after he was "expelled" from Islam.

In a ceremony held at Ghaziabad’s Dasna Devi temple in UP, Rizvi was given a new name by the chief priest – Yati Narsinghanand Saraswati.

  • Forehead smeared with sandalwood paste and tilak, Wasim Rizvi has now been renamed as Jitendra Narayan Singh Tyagi.

Adopting a new religion, Tyagi requested not to be addressed by his former name.

A month ago, Tyagi had stirred controversy when he released a controversial book titled ‘Muhammad’ criticizing Islam. This had sparked protests with many Muslim religious leaders demanding ban on the book and a case be lodged against Rizvi.

  • He said, “I have not left Islam but I have been ousted from Islam. I wanted certain aspects in the religion to be changed and was voicing my opinion against the malpractices prevalent in the religion, but instead of doing an introspection, they started to hound me, so I chose to adopt Sanatan Dharma”.

"Today, I chose to convert to Hinduism. Sanatan dharma is the first dharma of the world. I respect Sanatana dharma. It is full of believing in humanity," he said.

“Now I will work to strengthen Hinduism and will work hand in hand with Narsinghanand ji to defeat the jihadist forces,” added Tyagi.
