Mumbai Airport: Customs detain 18 Kenyan women with 4 kgs gold

According to reports, Custom officials at the Mumbai international airport detained 18 Kenyan women with 4 kgs worth of gold. The gold seized is expected to be worth Rs 2 Crore in the market.

  • The women, who had flown to India from Nairobi via Sharjah, were carrying small gold bars hidden in Shawarmas, bottles of coffee and shoes. Some gold was also found in their undergarments.

The custom officials have arrested one woman for carrying gold more than the permissible limit. The other 17 have been let go after the agency seized the undeclared gold.

Further investigation is underway.
