Despite recording more than 20,000 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal informed that the country's financial capital, Mumbai has no plans of lockdown.
In an interview with Bloomberg News Chahal said "Mumbai has already banned large gatherings and also put restrictions on the number of people that can attend events. No lockdown and no further restrictions are planned even if cases were to rise".
"Even if we get 40,000 cases or more per day which may happen in the next few days, we can manage the situation, there won't be an oxygen shortage or even a lockdown. This is simply because only a small percentage of people need hospital beds or oxygen" Chahal told the media.
Yesterday the city reported 20,181 new cases out of which 17,154 (85%) were found to be asymptomatic, 2,837 recoveries and 4 deaths.
