On Monday, the Election Commission of India postponed the date of Punjab Assembly Election from February 14 to February 20. This decision has been taken after the body received multiple requests from political parties in the view of Guru Ravidas Jayanti celebrations.

Guru Ravidas Jayanti celebrations, to be observed on February 16, 2022, might witness a movement of large number of Devotees from Punjab to Varanasi. Hence sticking to the initial poll date "will deprive a large number of electors from voting," the EC said.

Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party Supremo Arvind Kejriwal today informed that the party' Punjab Chief Ministerial candidate's name will be announced on Tuesday (January 18) at noon.
