RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav sentenced to five years' imprisonment

On Monday, Former Bihar CM and Rashtriya Janta Dal (RJD) chief, Lalu Prasad Yadav was sentenced to five years in prison in the fifth fodder scam case. He also has to pay a fine of Rs 60 lakh.

The case pertains to the illegal withdrawal of Rs 139.5 crore from the Doranda treasury.

He was declared guilty on February 15, 2022. Off the 99 accused in the case, 24 were acquitted, while 46 were sentenced to a three year jail term.

He has been sentenced in four fodder scam cases. This one was the fifth and final one. The 73-year-old nearly severed four years in prison after he was sentenced to fourteen years of imprisonment in 2017. He had however secured bail in all four cases and was released last year in April.
