On late Thursday evening nephew of Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, Bhupinder Singh Honey was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in an illegal sand mining case from Jalandhar after day long questioning.

Bhupinder Singh Honey has been sent to the ED custody till 8th February. He has been arrested under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

This move from ED comes around 20 days after it seized more than Rs 10 crore, gold worth above Rs 21 lakh and a Rolex watch worth Rs 12 Lakh from the residential premises of Bhupinder Singh Honey and others in connection with an alleged sand mining case.

When asked about his reaction to this development, CM Charanjit Singh Channi said he has no objections to "the law doing its work."

"We have no objections with the law doing its works," Channi was quoted by ANI.

Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha and Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge termed the arrest as "political" and said it has been done "to create pressure".
