On Monday, the Tamil Nadu Police arrested eight people, including four minors, for allegedly raping a 22-year-old woman and threatening her of uploading her nude video on social media.
As per the report from ANI, the accused have been identified as Hariharan (27), Madasamy (37), Praveen (22), Junath Ahmed (24). The names of the minors have not been disclosed for security reasons.
According to the police, the accused Hariharan is a DMK worker and raped her on the pretext of marriage.
Following the news of the arrest, DMK leader Kanimozhi in a tweet in Tamil hoping that the accused will be severely punished no matter who they are.
"It is comforting to know that the persons who sexually abused a 22 year old woman in Virudhunagar district have been arrested. The perpetrators should be severely punished no matter who they are," she tweeted.
The police have registered a case under sections 376 (2), 354, 354D of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Section 66 (e) of the IT Act, Sections 3 (1) (w), 3 (2) (v) of the SC/ST Act.
