Delhi: SC refuses to entertain plea by CPI(M) against demolition drive in Shaheen Bagh

The Supreme Court on Monday refused to entertain the plea filed by CPI(M) against the demolition drive carried out in Shaheen Bagh area of Delhi.

A bench of Justice L Nageswara Rao and BR Gavai asked why is the political party filing the petition.

While hearing the petition, the court said that it has not given licence to anybody to come here to say their house cannot be demolished even if it is unauthorised.

"We have never given any licence to everybody to come here and say my house is being demolished even if it is unauthorised... Merely because we are showing indulgence, don't take shelter under the court's orders," the apex court said.

A huge local protest broke out earlier today as bulldozers rolled into the area for an anti-encroachment drive conducted by the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC).
