Govt withdraws advisory against sharing of Aadhaar photocopies

On Sunday, the Central Government withdrew its May 27 advisory in which it had asked citizens to share only masked versions of their Aadhaar cards with organizations in order to prevent its misuse.

Earlier the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) had warned the people not to share photocopies of Aadhaar with organization citing it's misuse.

The authority had suggested the use of masked Aadhaar which displays only the last 4 digits of your Aadhar card

A press release was also issued by the authority.

The Centre has now withdrawn the advisory in view of the possibility of the misinterpretation of the Press Release, the same stands withdrawn with immediate effect.

Aadhaar card holders have now been advised to exercise normal prudence in using and sharing their UIDAI Aadhar numbers.
