ED summons MP Sanjay Raut amid political crisis

On Monday, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) summoned Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut in a money laundering case for questioning on Tuesday.

He has been asked to appear before the agency officials at their regional office in Mumbai at 11 am. The summon has been issued in a connection with the re-development of Mumbai's Patra Chawl.

  • This development comes against the backdrop of a major political tussle in Maharashtra between Shiv Sena and Sena's rebel legislators led by Eknath Shinde who are currently camping in Assam's Guwahati.

"I just came to know that ED has summoned me. Good! There are big political developments in Maharashtra. We, Balasaheb's Shivsainiks are fighting a big battle. This is a conspiracy to stop me. Even if you behead me, I won't take the Guwahati route. Arrest me! Jai Hind!" tweeted Raut.

Earlier in April, the agency had attached immovable properties worth Rs 11.15 crore, including a flat at Dadar, held by Raut's wife Varsha Raut.
