ECI asks Thackeray and Shinde to submit documents to prove majority in Shiv Sena

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has asked rival factions of Shiv Sena, led by Uddhav Thackeray and Eknath Shinde, to submit documentary evidence to prove that they have the majority members in the party.

  • The ECI has sought replies from both camps by August 8. The poll body will hear the claims after receiving the reply from both sides.

Earlier this week, the Shinde faction of the Shiv Sena had written to the Commission seeking allocation of the party's "bow and arrow" election symbol, citing the recognition granted to them in the Lok Sabha and the Maharashtra assembly.

"Election Commission wrote to us. We will take our stand in front of the Election Commission. We have 50 MLAs and in Lok Sabha, 2/3rd members are with us," Maha CM Eknath Shinde said.
