In the early hours of Sunday, 81-year-old Legendary Bengali and Odia singer Nirmala Mishra passed away at her residence in Kolkata's Chetla after suffering a massive cardiac arrest at around 12.05 am and was declared dead on reaching the nearest nursing home.
Mishra Ji's body had been kept at Rabindra Sadan in the noon for her fans and admirers to pay their last respect.
The veteran singer had been battling age-related ailments for quite some time and was almost bedridden for the past few months.
Born in 1938 in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district, Mishra ji received the Sangeet Sudhakar Balakrushna Das Award for her lifetime contribution to Odia music. She also received Banga Bibhushan, Sangeet Samman and several other prestigious awards for her contribution to Bengali music.
Her popular Bengali songs include 'Emon Ekti Jhinuk', Bolo to Arshi' and 'Ei Banglar Mati Te', while some of her hit Odia songs are 'Nida Bhara Raati Madhu Jhara Janha' and 'Mo Mana Beena Ra Taare'.
