Mumbai: Indefinite strike by autorickshaw, taxi owners & drivers to begin from Sept 15.

As per various media reports, over two lakh autorickshaw drivers and 48,000 taxi drivers in Mumbai have planned a strike indefinitely beginning from September 15, Thursday, demanding a fare hike.

The demand for a fare increase follows a 25% increase in CNG prices. The fare was last revised to Rs 25 in March 2021. As a result, this decision in turn will severely hit the commuters in Mumbai.

An office-bearer of the Mumbai Taximen's Union as quoted by the Indian Express said that taxi and auto drivers will accept whatever raise they are eligible for based on the report of the state transport control committee.

The union wants the minimum taxi fare raised from Rs 25 to Rs 35. The union stated that if the committee offers a raise of Rs 28 or Rs 30, the drivers will accept it.

Meanwhile, state industries minister Uday Samant has called a meeting with the taxi drivers’ union at Mantralay, Quadros said.
