On Thursday, the Indian Army foiled an infiltration attempt and shot down a terrorist in an encounter along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district.

"At about 10:00 hours today, alert soldiers of the army observed suspicious movement of some individuals along the Line of Control in the Poonch sector (J-K), wherein they were trying to infiltrate across the Line of Control into the Indian side," a spokesman from Ministry of Defence said.

Challenging the infiltrators who fired on them, the soldiers killed a terrorist in an engulfing fight after which they recovered his body along with two AK-47 rifles, a pistol and war-like stores.

The encounter as well as a fresh search operation is ongoing. Further details awaited.
